MODESTY
Tao pervades all
- but never parades itself.
It provides unstintingly
- but remains anonymous.
It gives a lead to every path
- but does not pioneer.
The sage finds pride irrelevant
- and takes no pride in humility.
Self-effacing?
Not self-facing!
Over time, it is natural for
dazzling fame to be balanced by dark obscurity; or for
bright ideas to become forgotten.
There is nothing to be gained - or lost - by
glorifying Tao,
nor by denigrating it. It is altogether untouched by 'hype'.
