Cut distractions: make time.
Pause thinking: release being.

Eject clutter: discover space.
Clear the mind: reveal the spirit.

Exclude hubbub: welcome peace.
Calm desire: induce contentment.

'Taking time out' can range from the homespun but effective 'forty winks' to the sophisticated and fathomless meditation of Zen.
Many religions and their secular equivalents include practices intended to immerse the psyche in some form of meditational state.

Taken to extremes, such 'passivity' can become regarded as an end in itself, leading to complete withdrawal from worldly existence.
The moderating action of Tao views such states as part of a 'balanced mental diet' and an obvious, natural component of healthy living.
